The Real Survival Game of Entrepreneurship

Survival is not just a reality tv show.  When you’re an entrepreneur, survival is just plain reality.  And if you’re a new entrepreneur, the only rule of the survival game is making it through your first year.

This blog post is a short, to the point, no fluff, guide to surviving your first year in business, where the only objective is to make it to year 2.  And not surprisingly, it’s also great advice for getting to year 3 too.

With the author’s permission (which I didn’t get), I would like to add another point:

6.  Create a Success Team. Survival is hard.  It’s near impossible when you go it alone.  You need to surround yourself with people who have your back, will tell you when you’re screwing up, and who will give you a pat on the back for even small successes.  It’s your “brain to pick, ear to listen, and push in the right direction”.   This isn’t a new thought.  I’ve written (well actually it’s a video) about this before here.

Can you think of others to add to this list?  Drop me a comment. I’d love to hear from you.

I am pretty new to the Business Owner scene, although I have been working on my center for the past 5 years. It is little hard to find people you trust to share you vision with that may be able to assist in you opening your business. I have tons of things done for my business to open. I am as a stand still right now finding the funding needed to get me started. I have even teied to do one of the other streams f income to try and assist in the funding and the truth of the matter is IT ALL COSTS. So, I was wondering if there is any advise you can offer someone in my shoes. thank you

Dominga, I commend your tenacity and hard work. While funding can be a challenge, I encourage you to think creatively about how to get your business up and running on a limited budget. Can you pull back your launch plans and launch part-time? Can you use a “grass roots/viral” marketing approach? Can you tag team with another related, but non-competitive business and co-market? Try to think outside the typical “funding box”. You can do it!
