Meet the Therapist!

I am an author, speaker, “launch therapist” and attorney with a passion for working with new entrepreneurs.  I’m not your typical business lawyer or coach.  Known for telling it like it is, I like to “keep it real” with new business owners while sharing practical wisdom and refreshing insight on legal and business issues related to starting, running and growing small businesses.  Whether you are thinking about starting a business or have already stepped into the exciting world of entrepreneurship, I bring my twenty years of practicing law and “baptism by fire” entrepreneurship experience to teach, humor, and challenge you, but most importantly to help you be a better business owner.

Where did I learn to be an expert on small businesses?  From representing and coaching literally hundreds of women just like you with a passion for entrepreneurship—solopreneurs, momprenuers, micropreneurs, small business owners—you name it, I’ve represented them.  Along with representing their legal needs, I started noticing that my clients were seeking me out for just practical advice on running and growing their businesses as well.  Then friends started asking me for advice on how to launch, run and grow their business.  Then I started being invited to speak on the same topic.

As I met more and more women with a passion to own a business, I started to notice a common theme.  Fear of failure. Fear of Change.  Fear of the Unknown.  And even…Fear of Success!  And guess what?  I could relate.  I spent 16 years in law firms and corporate America, toiling away and climbing the proverbial “corporate ladder”, and being handsomely paid for my work.  But, I was miserable!  I didn’t fit into the traditional corporate attorney mold.  I was like the proverbial square peg in a round hole.

Yet, even still, I was torn between continuing to earn a solid six figure income plus annual bonuses and nice corporate perks OR launching out on my own.  After all, who would be CRAZY enough to leave a good corporate job for entrepreneurship?  Um…well…actually, me!  Despite my fears, I finally decided to launch my own solo law practice, and after 2 years, guess what?  I was miserable again!  Only this time, I couldn’t figure out why.  I was making money, I was my own boss, so what was the problem?

Well, after spending time with a coach, I had an epiphany.  OMIGOSH!  I had created a business that mirrored everything I hated about corporate America and traditional law firm practice!  I was a square peg in my OWN round hole!  Talk about a wake-up call!  It took me some time spent in personal reflection, but I finally figured out what my LIFE VISION was, and decided to create a business for myself that utilizes my gifts and talents and fuels my passion.  And that is how Launch Therapy was born.

Now, most people say you must be insane to launch a business.  But, I’ve concluded that you must be completely SANE to start your own business.  So I consider myself qualified to provide therapy on the issues of starting and running a business.  Additionally, there are issues of owning and running a business that I’m still working through myself, so there’s always a little “self-medicating” involved here.

I don’t have any “Proven Systems” for overnight  success.   I don’t even believe in that.  What I do have , besides my own entrepreneurial experience, is almost 20 years of experience practicing law—most of that time spent focused on general business law, asset protection, and more recently, women owned businesses.  So I’ve seen just about every business problem there is and seen companies and business owners struggle through tough times and celebrate in good times.   And I’ve been in the trenches with these entrepreneurs helping brainstorm and implement solutions.

So often women are afraid to be real with each other.  Well, I’m here to be real with you about the highs and lows of launching a business.  I’ll talk about the good, the bad and the ugly.  We’ll talk about the stuff behind the scenes that doesn’t get talked about.  I’ll share my failures and discuss how sometimes this journey is messy–but oh, so rewarding.  I’m all about keeping it real.
